PRESS RELEASE
Statement from the Edward M. Kennedy Institute and the Orrin G. Hatch Foundation on Recent Political Violence
July 15, 2024 (Boston, Mass.) – Today in response to Saturday’s tragedy in Butler, Pennsylvania, the Kennedy Institute issued the following statement with our Senate Project partner:
“As Institutes dedicated to the legacies of former Senators Orrin Hatch and Ted Kennedy focused on bipartisan compromise and an engaged democracy, we condemn the recent assassination attempt against former President Trump, which resulted in the tragic loss of innocent life. Political violence or threats of violence of any form are unacceptable. We recommit to our shared bipartisan effort to resolve deep divisions through the democratic process centered on meaningful debate and deliberation. That is how we strengthen our democracy.”
“Now is the time for political leaders and citizens alike to move forward together and make clear that we as a nation will not tolerate acts of violence in our political sphere.”
