Edward M. Kennedy Institutes Brings Together 1,000 students from Five States for Civic Dialogue

March 20, 2025 (Boston, Mass.) – The Kennedy Institute convened nearly 1,000 students virtually from 47 schools in 5 states and the DC area to mark 2025 Civic Learning Week. Elementary students participated in the Welcoming Words program which introduces young students to an important American symbol, the Statue of Liberty, and the welcome that she represents to immigrants. Middle school students roleplayed senators and worked together to build legislation for new citizens in the Pathways to Citizenship program.

Civic Learning Week, celebrated this year March 10-14, is an annual, nationwide effort to prioritize civic education in order to sustain and strengthen our constitutional democracy. This nonpartisan event brings together students, educators, policymakers, and leaders in the public and private sectors to highlight and further energize the movement for civic education in states and communities across the nation.
